The need
In the Tidène valley, the water table is accessible at 15-25 m. A market-garden well can irrigate a garden of 0.5 to 1 hectare.
Combined with the women's cooperatives, these wells are the valley's economic backbone.
The action
Hand-dug by villagers, concrete lining, parapet, secured access. Typical depth of 12 m.
€10,000 per well — about 40% of the cost of a village well (€25,000).
